Women in a workshop in Antananarivo (the capital of Madagascar) make traditional Malagasy handicrafts, including the tablecloths and pillow cases sold on this WebSite. The items are also sold in the popular open-air tourist market, the Marche Artisanal and the outdoor market in Andravoahangy in Madagascar that is situated in the Indian Ocean to the East of Africa.
The designs on the tablecloths depict daily life --- men going to work on the land, women cooking food, children playing jump rope, men transporting people, elderly walking aided by a walking stick etc. Each scene is patiently hand embroidered on cloth and are so well done that life can be vividly imagined. Old and young enjoy these tablecloths and children at the dinner table enjoy the story telling…
The pillow cases, in different colors, are woven from raffia and are accentuated with different designs made from jute.
